New statistics have come out for the top cosmetic surgery procedures performed in 2015. Similar to previous years, breast augmentation was by far the most common cosmetic surgery performed in the United States. This has been a consistent trend for most years for cosmetic surgeons in the United States.
In the Milwaukee and Waukesha areas, Dr. Alex Colque sees a similar trend of cosmetic surgery statistics with one variation. A tummy tuck procedure, also known as an abdominoplasty, is very common in southeastern Wisconsin and the Midwest. Although nationwide, there are about half the number of tummy tuck procedures performed as compared to breast augmentation procedures, this is not what is seen in Dr. Colque’s practice. “In my practice, the two most common procedures that I perform are tummy tuck and breast augmentation. Breast augmentation is very common nationwide, however, in my practice I see a significant increase in the percentage of tummy tucks that I perform”, says Dr. Alex Colque, board certified plastic surgeon. Tummy tuck procedures have increased over 100% since the year 2000. This is likely due to increased awareness and improved results with the latest and most advanced techniques. “We have fantastic results from the tummy tuck procedures that I perform. These procedures tend to be life-changing in most patients. I will commonly see a woman who has excess abdominal skin and fat that will not go away by any other means including diet and exercise. A tummy tuck procedure also corrects laxity of the abdominal wall musculature and treats rectus diastasis. These conditions are common with women who are post pregnancy or have had weight loss. I perform a true full tummy tuck procedure to give the best cosmetic surgical results. My tummy tuck patients are some of the happiest patients in my practice and it is a procedure that I love to perform and see the patient’s dramatic transformation to flat and tight belly.”
Tummy tuck procedures also have other significant benefits in addition to removal of excess fat in skin. The muscle wall is tightened that can lead to a more anatomic position of the rectus muscles that helps in movement and exercise as well as stabilization of the core. In addition to this, clothes fit better and movements are easier without the bulging and excess abdominal skin and fat. All of this leads to more women (and men) who want to get this procedure. “In Milwaukee and Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest, the number of tummy tucks are up because the patient satisfaction is up”, says Dr. Alex Colque.
